The Urban Health and Wellness project is an ongoing effort by The Field Museum to understand how Chicago’s long history of multiculturalism and immigration has shaped the pursuit of wellness in its myriad of forms. The goal of this effort is to create a platform to share the voices, heritage, history, and knowledge of Chicagoans—from cultural cuisine and herbal stores to university scholarship on ethnobotany—about the origins and evolution of different lifeways and practices of health and wellness. It should not be used as a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

The Field Museum has not tested and makes no judgments or representations about the efficacy, safety, or benefits of any of the claims, treatments, products, substances, or practices discussed on this webpage or on any linked webpage or contained in any “third party content”, i.e., comments or other content submitted by users of this webpage or the Museum’s social media accounts. The Field Museum does not endorse any of the remedies, prescriptions, methods, or other opinions expressed in the interviews documented on this website or third party content; such interviews and content are personal opinions and oral histories, which have been recorded for scholarly, ethnographic purposes and do not constitute advertisement for or endorsement of any treatment, product, service, practice or company by The Field Museum.
